Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Wilma Jean Reed will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.
Wilma was born to Harlan Ray and Grace (Duey) Ray in Chester, Neb., on Aug. 2, 1925.
She passed away at the Vista Grande Nursing Home on March 11, 2002, at the age of 76.
On Feb. 12, 1944, Wilma became the bride of Richard K. Reed in Mesa, Ariz. Wilma was a devoted mother and very involved in her children's activities.
She was very civic-minded and gave her time and energy to many activities. Wilma and Dick made Cortez their home over 30 years ago.
She kept busy selling real estate and in her spare time she enjoyed painting, gardening and dancing.
Surviving Wilma are her husband of 58 years, Richard, of Cortez; daughters, Patricia Shaver of Yreka, Calif., and Judy Reed of Fort Collins, Colo.; granddaughters, Dawn Stanley-Butts of Redding, Calif., and Jennifer Perham of Grenada, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Joe Butts and Kayla Perham.
Preceding Wilma in death were her father, who died before her birth; her mother, Grace O'Neil; her son, Richard K. Reed III, who died in 1958 at the age of 10; and her brother, Roland Ray.
