Joseph Lawhorn, 57 years of age and a life-long resident of this community, died Tuesday evening about 5:30 of dropsical and heart trouble from which he had been suffering for some time The body was removed to the Young funeral home on West Jefferson street to await services.
Joseph Lawhorn had spent his entire life in this community, his parents for years residing on North Mill street and later after the death of the father (Benjamin F. Lawhorn 1843-?), the widow, (Susan Kysar Lawhorn 1845-1922), removed to property on North Conde street, where her death occurred a number of years ago. For the past two years the deceased had been unable to do manuel labor, but prior to that time had been a hard working and industrious man.
He was married 30 years ago, on April 28, 1898, to Miss Frances Easterwood of this city, her death occurring a number of years ago, leaving two small daughters, Agnes and Mary, the latter being a babe in arms. Both daughters reside north of Tipton, the elder being the wife of James Carr and the younger daughter, the wife of Clarence Ripberger.
He is survived by these two daughters, two brothers, William of Tipton and Jesse of Kokomo, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoke and Mrs. Mary Benedict, both of Kokomo.
After his health became such that he could not do manual labor the deceased was employed as a companion for Pearl Smith, the blind man, and resided with him on Fourth street.
Joe Lawhorn was a man who left a number of friends here to mourn his passing and will be missed from his accustomed haunts.
Funeral services are to be held at St. John's Catholic church at 9:00 o'clock Thursday morning and burial will be in the St. John's cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the hour of the services and friends are invivted to call at any time.
