Funeral services for Victor Joseph Jacobs, a longtime resident of Cortez, will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Derrek D. Scott officiating.
Visitation and Rosary services will be Monday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
He was born Jan. 7, 1921 in Hays, Kansas, one of 13 children born to Casper and Magdalena (Urban) Jacobs. He died at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at the age of 84.
A graduate from Kansas State University, he served his country during World War II in the Army. On June 16, 1947, he married Amelia Riedel in Hays, Kansas. After making a move to the Cortez area in June 1949, he began a career as an electrical engineer for Empire Electric working from June 1949 to March 1983.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Amelia Jacobs of Cortez; his children, Elizabeth Jacobs of Cortez, Joe Jacobs of Boulder, Colo., and Mary Ann Fake and husband, Doug of Oakland, Calif.; and his grandchildren, Regina Fake and Veronica Fake. His 12 siblings preceded him in death.
