DOVER — Richard J. Staples, 87, formerly of Court Street, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center.

Born in Dover on March 16, 1923, the son of Calvin and Gladys (Barrett) Staples, Richard grew up in Somersworth and was a graduate of Somersworth High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during World War II and the Korean War.

Richard was a member of the Dover Post #8, American Legion, and the Loyal Order of the Moose and was also a Mason.

Prior to his retirement he was a 37-year employee of Public Service Co. of New Hampshire in their meter department.

He was a member of the First Parish Church, Congregational.

He was the widower of Phyllis (Blair) Staples, who died in 1980, and Arline J. (Page) Staples, who died in 2006.

He is survived by his brothers Roland Patch of Rochester, Bruce Staples of Dover, Gerald Patch of Litchfield, Ill., Philip Patch, a sister Elaine Smith of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call Monday August 2nd from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Parish Church, Congregational, 218 Central Ave. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
