Funeral services for Mr. John Sidney Johnson will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 12pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Aiken. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Ranson, Jared Ranson, Wendel Ranson, Mathew Bowen, Dr. John Grassam, and Dr. Robert Bowen. Honorary pallbearers will be Herber Herron, Owen Herron, Burts Herron, Terrel Clark, Mackie Snipes, and Jack Lynes. The family will receive friends tonight (Friday) from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund, 2311 Casaba Dr., Aiken, S.C. 29803.

Mr. Johnson, 89, of Aiken, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

A lifelong resident of Aiken County, he was the son of the late John Wesley Johnson and Pearl Lilus Hall Johnson. He was a retired supervisor after thirty years of service from SCE & G. He was a member of Red Bluff Hunting Club, and the VFW Lodge. He served his country in the Army during World War II, where he earned a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Aiken Ward. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Woodrow Johnson, Swinton Johnson, Otis Johnson, Ethredge Johnson, Haskel Johnson, Osbert Johnson, sisters, Lillie Mae Johnson, Nackey Rushton, Maggie Fulmer, and Annie Cullum. He is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Myrtis Herron Johnson, daughters, Alice J. (Clifford) Ranson, Aiken; Betty J (Dr. Robert) Bowen, Stuart, FL; Edna L. (Dr. Kim F.) Lombardy, Martinez, GA, brother, Wesley Johnson, sister, Hattie Clifford, eleven grandchildren, and twenty two great grandchildren.
