Olympic Athlete. Born in Moscow, Russia, he was a world class pairs figure ice skater. Together with partner Ekaterina Gordeeva, they won virtually every major competition they entered, including the World Championships in (1985-86, 1988-89), European Championships (1987, 1989) and World Professional Championships (1991-92, 1994). At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada, they won the Gold Medal in pairs and another Gold Medal in pairs at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, in 1994. They remain the youngest pairs team ever to win Olympic Gold. He died at age 28 in Lake Placid, New York, while rehearsing for a "Stars on Ice" tour.
