Rebecca Hamilton, a daughter of Abner Hamilton and Mary Clendenin, was born 27 September 1791 in what was then Kentucky County of Virginia. Kentucky became a state in 1792. Her father and both grandfathers had been Revolutionary War Soldiers. Abner Hamilton settled in Barren County, Kentucky about 1799 possibly on a military grant. His name appears among the Revolutionary Soldiers listed on the bronze plate affixed to the wall of the courthouse at Glasgow. Rebecca Hamilton married James Wilson in Barren County, 11 September 1809. They lived for many years in Cumberland County, Kentucky on the south side of the Cumberland River in what is known as Turkey Neck Bend. In 1820, this part of Cumberland County became Monroe County. James Wilson was a merchant and engaged in agriculture. James and Rebecca Wilson had ten children all of whom were born at their home on the Cumberland River. (1) Samuel Bell Wilson, (2) Zerena Carman Wilson, (3) Ferdinand Hamilton Wilson, (4) Edward Hayden Wilson, (5) James Pulaski Wilson, (6) Harvey Henry Wilson, (7) Nancy Ellen Wilson, (8) Eliza Ruth Wilson, (9) Cyrus Atwood Wilson and (10) William Butler Wilson. In 1853, there were 70 family members related by blood and marriage who migrated to Hickman, Kentucky and Housier Valley in Obion County, Tennessee.
Rebecca Hamilton Wilson rests beside her husband in the Hickman City Cemetery. Her grave marker was broken and lost many years ago.
