Charles P. Strickland was the youngest child of John McAfee Strickland, a pioneer Baptist preacher, and Nancy Brown Norton. He was born in Comanche County, Texas in the community of Beattie. At the age of about 15, he was baptized in a cattle tank near his home. In WWI, he was stationed at Camp MacArthur near Waco, Texas. In 1919 he received a B.A. from Simmons College in Abilene. There he met his wife-to-be, Susie Collins. They were married on Susie's graduation day in 1921, the first wedding held in the new sanctuary of College Heights Baptist Church. He had served as superintendent of schools at Bomarton, Texas in Baylor, County for the 1920-21 school year. The young couple moved to Midland, TX for the 1921-1922 school year. Then they moved to Tyrone, OK where C.P. served as superintendent of schools. Their sons Bob and John were born there in 1922 and 1924. C.P. received his M.A. from Univ. Texas in Austin in 1925.

The family moved to Alvin, TX in 1925 where C.P. served as superintendent of Alvin ISD. He was ordained as a deacon by First Baptist Church Alvin in 1926. His brother William Alexander Strickland served there as pastor. Daughter Nan was born there in 1926. Later they moved to Arps, TX. He served as Superintendent of Schools nearby in Troup. There, their youngest child was born (living).

The family returned to Alvin about 1938. C.P. worked for the City of Alvin as City Secretary and Deputy Sheriff. He was active in the founding and construction of South Park Baptist Church in Alvin.

C.P. was a Mason and is buried in the Masonic section.
