The death of Mrs. Murphy takes from us one of the brightest and most cheerful of minds, a kind and sympathizing neighbor and an untiring worker for good. Her disposition was that which so few possess in this bleak world of ours, never ending brightness and cheerfulness. She met all with a cheerful face and a cheerful thought. She looked on the bright side of every cloud and lived the bright side of life. Sorrow and care came to her as to all, especially in the death of a little son several years ago. We have obtained the following from a reliable source which we submit:

Dianthus Meade was born December 1, 1838 in Chautauqua county, N. Y. Was married to Hamlin Murphy in Illinois January 4, 18--. She joined the M. E. church in 1857, moved to Madison county in 1870. Mrs. Murphy died April 24, 1892 at the age of a little more than 53 years. She was a sufferer since last summer of heart disease. She leaves five children: Mrs. B. Hathaway, of Woodbury county, George H., of Keokuk county, and Robert, Charles and Rosa, besides her grief stricken husband. The church was appropriately decorated for the services and the tears of her many friends and neighbors fell with those of her loved ones.

Note: Burial was made in the Old Penn Center cemetery.
