Suggested edit: Roy Dale Williams, a Midland resident for 45 years, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2008. Roy was born in Brady, March 25, 1951, the son of Howard Lawrence and Olga Clystene Williams. He attended and graduated from Lee High School in Midland in 1969. In 1974 he met and married Cheri Dawn Bowers, his wife of 35 years. They had two children, daughter Candace Dawn and son JoeRay. He was employed at MidTex of Midland for several years. Roy loved participating in sports and coached his son JoeRay in baseball, football and basketball from YMCA to Semi-pro football. He also coached and umpired for several different leagues for more than 20 years. Roy was a lover of cars and motorcycles and was a member of The Cruisers Car Club and the Permian Basin Auto Club. Roy and Cheri attended South Memorial Baptist Church and Stonegate Fellowship in Midland. Roy was always full of life and was well known for his ability to put a smile on your face. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and trusted friend. Roy never required much for himself, but was a generous giver to those in need, especially at Christmas time when he donated his time, talent and resources to make children’s wishes come true. Roy’s friendship and wit will be dearly missed by his many lifelong friends, co-workers and acquaintances. Roy is survived by his loving wife and lifelong partner Cheri Dawn, and their two children, Candace and husband, John, and JoeRay and wife, Kate. Roy was a very proud and loving grandfather to Candace’s two children, son Jaxson Howard, and daughter McKinzy Dawn, and JoeRay’s son, Landon Cole. He is also survived by his mother, Clystene Williams of North Richland Hills; sisters, Judy Furrh of North Richland Hills, and Rita Williams of Ardmore, Okla. and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved. Local survivors incude Gene Williams, Marsha Wallace, Gary Williams and Ricky Williams, all of Brady. Services were held at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6. Burial was at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady, Wednesday, Jan.7. Pallbearers were JoeRay Williams, David Benton, Joe Moreno, Mike Kelly, Art Mueller and Leslie Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Thompson, Gary Thompson, Mike Snow, Ron Van Meter, Gene Plunk, Randy Young and Steve Baker. Arrangements were under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
