Born May 23, 1850 in Grand Rapids, the home occupying the present site of the Davis High school, he was the son of Lewis C. Davidson, pioneer contractor. With his father and brothers, James and Charles, George I. Davidson was associated in the contracting business for many years.
He was appointed superintendent of construction of public schools in 1898 and held that position until his appointment as city building inspector in 1905. He retired in 1926.
Mr. Davidson was married in 1876 to Kate Harrison, daughter of William Harrison, pioneer wagon manufacturer of Grand Rapids. She died in 1906. He married Mrs. Theresa Tatem in 1920.
For many years he was a member of Fountain Street Baptist church, of which his mother was a charter member. He was a life member of Valley City lodge, F. & A.M., and was a Knight Templar.
Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Glenn H. of Seattle and C. DeWitt of Wayne,
PA; a daughter, Mrs. Hazel G. Meier of Grand Rapids, 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and five sisters, Mrs. Almeron Ford of Shawnee, Okla.; Mrs. James A Hawkins of Spring Lake, Mrs. Charlotte McWilliams of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Floyd Byrum of Los Angeles and Mrs. Delos Higman of Chicago.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Arrival of a son from the west is awaited.
