Elijah Taylor Knapp served as a Sgt. in the Connecticut Militia. He was badly wounded in the Battle of Jamestown when he was shot through his right thigh, shattering his femur and nearly bled to death. The wound left him handicapped and he could barely walk. According to his pension papers, he was taken prisoner where he was held for several months. After his release from prison camp, he rejoined the Army and continued to fight as an "invalid". After the war, he was left permanently disabled and received a full military pension
