OBITUARY from "The World":
Services for William D. Major, 87, Eastside, will be held Friday at 10 a.m at the Mills-Bryan-Sherwood Chapel with the Rev. Malcolm Turkington of the Charleston Community Church officiating. Private entombment will follow at Sunset Mausoleum.
Mr. Major was born Oct. 20, 1893 in Emerson, Manitoba, Canada, and died June 23 in Eastside. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired in 1959 from Coos Bay Lumber, now Georgia-Pacific, and resided in Coos Bay since 1906. His wife, Annie M., preceded him in death in 1969.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Dick Ekblad, Eastside; sisters, Anna Mae Brown, Dorothy Titus and Ada Taylor, all of Coos Bay, Lillian Hargett and Hazel Hargett, both of San Pedro, Calif.; friend, Elsie Hamilton, Eastside; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
