Miss Alma Carl married W.D. McFarlane on 25 December 1923 at San Antonio, Texas. The couple moved to Graham, Texas in 1924 from San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. McFarlane's body was transferred from Washington, DC after her death for burial in the family plot. Services were held at the First Methodist Church in Graham. Mrs. McFarlane was buried by the grave of a son who died several years ago. Congressman and Mrs. McFarlane have been members of the Methodist Church in Graham for years. She was active in various women's organizations in Graham. Mrs. McFarlane was a graduate of the University of Texas and prominent in literary and social organizations of Austin while there. An estimated 2,000 people gathered in Graham to pay their last respects to Mrs. Alma Carl McFarlane. Expressions of sympathy included beautiful tributes from President and Mrs. Roosevelt. Postmaster General Jim Farley, United States Senators Morris Sheppard and Tom Connally, the entire Texas delegation in Congress. Mr. and Mrs. Allred of Bowie, parents of the Texas Governor, and his aunt, Mrs. Cox of Bellevue came to Graham for the funeral. A group of 12 girls around 13 years of age, friends of Mary Ellen McFarlane, 13, occupied a pew together near the front of the church and helped serve in handling the flowers. They were: Mary Leslie Scott, Mary Maria Morrison, Mary Arnold, Betty Baker, Charlotte Burton, Barbara Bloodworth, Lou Wallace Childress, Evelyn Morris, Jo Annice Cornish, Betty Joe Friedel, Norma Haden. Rev. E.W. Bridges, the pastor of the Methodist Church, conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. S.C. Guthrie, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and Rev. J. Dale Thorn, pastor of First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were: Carl Glidemeister, Paul Wilson, S.S. Bates, Herbert V Crawford, Norman Stovall, Homer Thornton, Leslie Scott, and Jim Akin. There was an extensive list of honorary pallbearers.

Survived by her husband; five children; one sister; one brother.

Death has been a frequent visitor of the family over a year ago their son, R.H. McFarlane died at Burkburnett and another son, Lt. R.N. McFarlane, another son, lost his wife and infant daughter in Washington where he is serving in the Intelligence Department for the US Navy.
