Joseph H. FARR was the s/o Wm H FARR & Harriet VanVACTOR. He was the publisher of the Hempstead Courier and last the editor of the Hempstead Chronicle until his death. He married Sarah Texanna CLOUD, sister to his brother Napoleon B. FARR's wife and d/o H.G.W. CLOUD & Mary BATEMAN. He was shot and killed by his brother-in-law who was justice of the peace in Waller County, TX apparently over his publishing of alleged mismanagement of funds of that office. His brother-in-law was in poor health, having consumption (TB), and died just 5 months later.

During a quarrel on the 5th Joseph H. Farr, editor of the Hemphill (Tex) Courier, was shot and instantly killed by J. J. Cloud, a justice of the peace. (Southern Kansas Gazette, Augusta, Kansas, May 13, 1886)
