JOHN H. MILLMAN

CARLSBAD---A funeral for John H. Millman, 73, of Eighth Street, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hinze officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to noon today at West Funeral Home.

Mr. Millman died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Lakeside Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.

West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Horace Millman was born Oct. 26, 1929, in Miami, Ariz., to Carl C. and Florence Z. Cass Millman. When he was just an infant, his family homsteaded in Lakewood. He was raised and educated in Lakewood and attended high school in Carlsbad.

He played basketbhall for Carlsbad High School, was voted All-State Player of the Year in 1947 and graduated in 1948.

John became an electrician and traveled throughout Arizona, West Texas and northern New Mexico helping construct new power plants.

He met Mary Evelyn Pomroy, and they were married in 1959 in Carlsbad. After his retirement, he and his wife returned to make Carlsbad their home.

John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Elks BPOE No. 1558 and National Rifle Association. He attended Hillcrest Baptist Church.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Cliff.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the family home; sons, John Burke of Clovis, Jimmy Burke of Phoenix, and Bill Hammett and Don Hammett of Carlsbad; daughters, Cindy McDermid of Chicago and Nelda Nevill of Eastland, Texas; a sister-in-law, Jean of Carlsbad; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
