Izanna Frances Wayne Anthony, 88, of Suffield, CT, born January 19, 1922, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2010.

Frances Anthony ("Bits") was born along with her twin sister, Inez Reynolds ("Tiny") to George Alonzo Wayne and Agnes Hawkins Wayne at 223 Hickory Street in Suffield, CT.

Frances lived most of her adult life in Brooklyn, NY, where she had a fulfilling career as a registered nurse at Kings County Hospital. Bits loved the nursing profession, and worked most of her career first as an emergency room nurse and then as a Head Floor nurse. Frances was an active member of the Black Nurses Association and attended many conferences, taught seminars and mentored young people into the profession.

Bits' experiences as a nurse developed within her a caring and generous spirit. She was both spiritual and religious, and volunteered her time and money to help the poor and disenfranchised. She was also very generous to those she loved. Bits had fine tastes and loved to travel. She loved the Arts and cultural activities, and was a frequent patron of Broadway, Opera, and museums.

She shared her enthusiasm for the arts, culture, and entertainment by taking us with her to venues such as the Bronx Zoo, Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden, The Met, The Apollo, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Plaza, Tanglewood, Bushnell Theatre, and many other places. For those of us who knew Bits, we also knew her to be intelligent, well-read, politically astute, fast-talking, highly opinionated, straight talking, independent, strong woman. She lived her life to the fullest, and we loved her for it. In her sunset years, Bits returned to Suffield to live with her sister and then retired to a nursing home in South Windsor. Frances Wayne Anthony married twice, but did not have any children.

Frances is survived by her twin sister Inez Reynolds, and predeceased by her brother Vernon Wayne, and her best friend Louise Jefferson. Her memory will carry on in the lives of her nieces and nephews, including Joanne Richemond of Jacksonville, Verna Trotman of Boston, Nancy Reynolds of Atlanta, Vicky Copes of Suffield, Wayne Pina of Springfield, and Lionel Reynolds of East Windsor.

A memorial service will be held at Third Baptist Church of Suffield on Friday (July 30, 2010) at 11:00 a.m. Flowers may be sent to the church at 188 Kent Avenue in Suffield.
Frances Wayne Anthony will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in Suffield, CT.
