Last Rites Held For David Wilcox

ACCIDENTALLY KILLED IN LUMBER CAMP IN OREGON; IS BURIED HERE.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Kovanda Chapel for David Wilcox, who was accidentally killed in the lumber camp at Blachly, Oregon on November 10.

The body arrived last Thursday morning. It is reported that he was killed instantly late in the afternoon when a large log, known as a "ginpole", fell on him. No one else of the more than 40 men working at the camp was injured. The body was not shown to anyone at the funeral parlor in Oregon nor at the funeral here.

OBITUARY-

David Ernest Wilcox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wilcox was born on May 21, 1923 on a farm north of Table Rock and died November 10, 1942 in an accident in a lumber mill in Oregon.

David became a member of the Methodist church in Pawnee City when a child and later had his membership transferred to the Methodist church in Table Rock.

He attended the Table Rock schools where he made many friends.

On December 18, 1941, he was united in marriage to Miss Arlene Lang of Table Rock, and on September 9, 1942 a daughter, little Phyllis June, came to live with them.

They moved to Oregon last summer where David secured work in a lumber mill.

David was a kind and thoughtful husband, son and brother, always wanted to do something for someone.

He leaves to mourn his wife and little daughter, his parents, six brothers, Harold and Bobby of Pawnee City, Lourain of Humboldt, Richard, Lyle and Lawrence at home, and five sisters, Mrs. Lucile Ingerson of Springfield, Oregon, Mrs. Jean Herrink of Pawnee City, Mrs. Ruth Craig of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Willard Hanna of Table Rock and Doris at home, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Table Rock at the Kovanda Chapel, in charge of Rev. W. H. Merrill, Methodist pastor, and the interment was at the Table Rock cemetery.

You cannot say, you must not say, that he is dead. He is just away.

With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand,
He has wandered into an unknown land,
And left us dreaming how very fair,
It needs must be since he lingers there.
So I think of him still as the same and say,
He is not dead, he is just away.
