Virginia Waldmire, 84, of Rochester died Sunday, Feb 3, 2002.

She was born March 20, 1917, in St Louis, the daughter of Ida Pearl Young and Harry Pierce. She married Edwin S Waldmire, Jr in 1940; he preceded her in death in 1993.

Mrs Waldmire was a 1935 graduate of Galesburg High School. She was a self employed business woman and a homemaker. In 1946, she and her husband founded the Cozy Dog Drive In and Supply Co. She started and operated the Cardinal Hill Candle and Craft Store in Rochester in 1972.

She was a past chairwoman of the Springfield Ceramic and Craft Club and was inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame in 1992. She was a life member of the North American Bluebird Society, Hemlock Society and the Nature Conservancy.

Survivors: five sons, Jeff (wife, Carol) Waldmire of Taylorville, Tom (wife, Debbie) Waldmire of Springfield and Bill (wife, Arlene), Bob and Buz Waldmire, all of Rochester; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services: 1pm Sunday, Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester.
