Wife of Corp. Henry Hardesty (1792-1873). They were married on March 28, 1814 in Adams County, Ohio. Sophiah was the mother of at least four girls and one boy: including: Mary, Charles, Elizabeth "Betty" and Angeline Hardesty and one more daughter who was born between 1815 and 1825. Sophiah was the daughter of John McFadden and Sophiah (Kelly) McFadden. Her parents came to the US from Ireland in 1795 and settled in Pennsylvania. Sophiah was born in Pennsylvania. In 1802, the family moved to Mason County, Kentucky. Sophiah's father died in 1811 and her mother and the family moved back to Ohio.

After several years of research, I have found why people have listed Sophiah's middle name as "Lieffy." It came from a transcription error in the Adams County, Ohio marriage index, where her name was written as "Sieffy" McFadden (supposed to be "Sophie") but the S was incorrectly transcribed as an "L." Her name was Sophiah and the "Lieffy" is just a mistake.

Please note: Cemetery transcription notes that say that Sophiah only has a small headstone with no name on it are incorrect. The headstone was recently photographed by a Findagrave contributor and her name and age are on the stone. Perhaps the transcription was referring to Sophiah's mother, Sophiah (Kelly) McFadden, who was supposedly also buried in the old section of this cemetery between 1820 and 1830.
