Name & Birth Date Notes:

He was born AMMERMAN and dropped one 'm' later in life. Why his name appears on his headstone as AMMERMON with an 'o' is only known to the person who commissioned it in 1934. My own family correspondence and records show he spelled his name, Ammerman and Amerman. On Sept 12, 1918, in his own hand, he signed his name AMERMAN Henry Stout on a World War I Registration card for the City of Trenton's Local Board for Division No. 1. A copy of the document is in the photo column.

I once changed the name on this memorial to the correct spelling, and someone searching the cemetery thought it was a different person because of the headstone and made a duplicate memorial for him. After getting that sorted out, I changed back to the incorrect spelling so this would not happen again. But unless a descendant reads this bio, his name will forever be misspelled on the internet, in ancestry forums and on family charts.

To add to the confusion, his headstone birth year was chiseled 1876. His NJ birth record states he and his TWIN brother were born Nov. 27, 1875. His brother's headstone is engraved correctly with the year 1875. -this is weird- His draft registration birth date reads Sept. 28, 1874. I chose his birth record as the source for the date on his memorial. I hope someone doesn't try to edit it back to the headstone date.
