Anna's parents gave her birth place as Indiana; it was given as Illinois in employment 1880-1910 (the 1910 entry for birth places of Anna and her parents is correct); 1920 MO; 1930 IL (again Anna and her parents' birth places are correct).

WENTZVILLE

Mr. and Mrs. Al Griesenauer and niece, Miss Dorothy Griesenauer motored to St. Charles Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral services of Miss Annie Humble, who died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brucker Saturday morning at 4:30. The immediate cause of her death was scarlet fever contracted while nursing the Brucker children. Private services were held at Dallmeyer's funeral parolrs (sic), followed by interment in St. Peters Cemetery. Miss Humble is well known here having resided for a number of years with her foster parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Griesenauer. With many friends we join in regret to learn of her sad death.

In the St. Charles papers we read of the death of Miss Anna Humble, aged 64 years at the home of Mr. Wm. Brucker at Buschertown on Saturday morning, Nov. 1 at 4:30 o'clock. Miss Humble was known to many of our people, having frequently visited here. Since the death of Mrs. Mary Griesenaeur (sic) at Wentzville, she has been with Mrs. Virginia Prinster Brucker. Miss Humble was a noble character, forgetting self and thinking always for the welfare of others.

Note 10/17/2017: Contributor chcobe #47014701 has requested that I add links to Joseph Griesenauer #104901750 and his wife, Mary #104901843 as both of their obituaries name Anna Humble as their adopted daughter. Anna Humble was listed on the Griesenauer household censuses in 1880 and 1920 as an orphan-servant. In 1900 and 1910 Anna was employed as a servant by the Samuel B. Ball family in St. Louis. Then on the 1930 census Anna was back in the Griesenauer household in St. Charles County listed as an "adopted daughter" with no employment. I was never able to find PROOF that Anna was legally adopted by the Griesenauers and at her age it seems unlikely, and her death notice above states she was a foster daughter (different thing). The censuses are always full of questions but the entry saying "adopted daughter" was perhaps more of a term of respect or long acquaintance or longevity in household employment. I am providing the links to the Griesenauers as requested but do not claim her as an adopted daughter in your Trees or charts without PROOF of a legal adoption, you do a disservice to her birth parents.
