A slate headstone marks the grave of Mrs. Littlefield, nee Phebe Ray, who died at the age of 27. She was a great-great-granddaughter of Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island, and "Ye youngest Daughter of SIMON RAY, Esqr" and the former Deborah Greene. Phebe became the wife of fellow Block Islander John Littlefield, who was some 16 years her senior. Their marriage took place on the island in August 1751, a month before her 18th birthday, and ended with her death a decade later. Among the children born of this union were her daughter and namesake Phebe, who eventually became the wife of John Sands, and Catherine, who married Gen. Nathaniel Greene of American Revolutionary War fame.
