Son of Mary Jane Montgomery and Gabriel Plowden.

Husband of Caroline A. McCollum Plowden

Father of E. Leonora Plowden, Wallace McInnes Plowden, James McCollum Plowden, Margaret Eva Plowden Daniels and Eliza Jane Plowden.

Grandfather of Eva Daniels Breland, William J. Daniels, Caroline M. Daniels Thompson, William James Daniels, Ethel Daniels Smith and John Covert Daniels.

Private John C. Plowden died at the age of 39 while in the Elmira prison camp. He was one of only four Confederate soldiers who had a marble marker placed on his grave. John was born and raised in Alcolu,Clarendon County, S.C. Letters between his wife Callie and W.J. Roe of Elmira tell how she sent money over a period of time and purchased the marker for her husband. The Roe family and the Plowden family met when the Roe family were in Manning S.C.. How ironic that Private Plowden should end his days where a friend could help lay him to rest.
