Daughter of Lt. General William Joseph Hardee of the War Between the States. She was born at Fort Jesep in Louisiana, where her father was stationed.

She was the wife of Major Nathaniel Rives Chambliss, who graduated from USMA, when her father, William Joseph Hardee, was the Commandant of Cadets. Cadet Chambliss was Captain of the cadet corps at West Point. Major Chambliss and Anna met at West Point while her father was Commandant. They were married on 24 Apr 1867 in Alabama.
