Michale Tetzloff was born in Zempelburg, Krs. Flatow, Westpreussen. He was the son of Eva Rosena (CARO) Tetzloff.

He immigrated to the United States, landing in Quebec, Canada, June 1863. He went to San Pierre by train the next day. The first night he slept in an old barn. After he had eaten his breakfast he inquired if any one knew the Wagners or Werths. A man who was driving a yoke of oxen told him they were coming to town with their butter to sell.

He started to go to their farm and met them on the road. They didn't know him until he told them who he was. He was their brother.

That fall he picked $90.00 worth of cranberries. Later he worked on a railroad and from there he went to work in a brick yard at Lafayette until harvest time when he returned to the farm.

On October 14, 1864 he married Kartherine Elizabeth Strantz, daughter of Christopher and Johanna (KOCH) Strantz. She was born January 26, 1846. After their marriage they moved to a farm in Cass Township (known as the Litka farm). The following year his mother came from Germany. Two years later they moved to Rich Grove Township to the farm now owned and operated by Leroy Tetzloff (a grandson). There they started building log houses and barns. It took just two days to put up a house 18 by 20. The first winter they had horses in one room and they lived in the other.

He also operated a tile mill where he made tile and brick for his own use. In 1904 he built a home in San Pierre and retired there.

Near the time the six sons were married Michael helped each to get established on farms near each other so they could help each other.

Michael C and Henry lived just across the road from each other - the Michael C Tetzloff farm is still in the Tetzloff name owned by Paul, has been in this name over 80 years.

August and Lewis lived near each other - the August Tetzloff farm in still in the family name. Eugene now owns the farm.

Charley and Edward live just across the road from each other. The Charley Tetzloff farm is now inthe name of his son LeRoy and has been in the family name over 100 years. It being the old homeplace.

In 1904, when his son Charles, married, Michael and Katherine retired to a home Michael built in San Pierre, using bricks he had made in the farm mill. Among the ingredients used to make those bricks was sand brought from Michigan for that purpose.

Michael and Katherine lived in San Pierre the balance of their lives. Katherine died Jun 21, 1923 and Michael died May 7, 1928.
The couple had 12 children - 5 girls: Amilie, Emilie, Ernestine, Louis, Anna Ernestine, and Lena; and 7 boys: Johann William, Michael C., Henry Otto, Lewis Friedrich Julius, Karl Ernest (Charles), Edward Theodore, and August.
