STILLWATER, Okla. — Vera Marie Stevens, age 83, a longtime Agra resident, passed away on July 26, 2010, in Stillwater Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Church of the Firstborn, Agra. Brother Lynn Brown and Brother Theldon Fowler will officiate. Interment will follow at Parkland Cemetery, Parkland, Okla.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Vera was born on Sept. 22, 1926, in Elm Store, Ark., to the late Herman "Elgan" and Georgia Brewer (Burnett) Looney. She grew up and attended school in Agra. From a very young age, she helped raise her siblings. Vera was baptized into the Church of the Firstborn in 1946 by Brother Claude Greenfield. Vera married Leonard Stevens on Oct. 2, 1943, in Chandler, Okla.

Her husband became a minister and evangelist in the church, traveling to many states preaching the gospel. Among the most remembered places were Naylor, Mo., Bargersville, Ind., and Liberty, Ky., just to name a few. She devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved God and her church. Vera enjoyed raising flowers, cooking and embroidery.

Vera is survived by her children, Gary Lynn Stevens and wife Earlene of Stillwater, Gladys Marie Coday and husband Michael of Tulsa, Johnie Ray Stevens of Perkins, Brenda Sue Kelly and husband Charles of Agra and LaVeda Jean Stevens of Clearwater, Fla.; brother J.W. Looney and wife Gladys of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother-in-law Don Britton of Parkland; sister Laverne Lane and husband Jack of Stillwater; sister-in-law Belva Looney of Cushing; half- sisters Phyllis Jo Berray and husband Johnny of North Richland, Texas, and Bobbie Jean Burnett of Perkins; grandchildren Regina Robinson, Brian Stevens, Angela Heddleston, Tammy Thomas, Scott Heddleston, Tina Burtrum, Ken Skillman, Dana Stevens, Brent Stevens, Jon Stevens, Kala Stilwell, David Kelly, Brendan Armour and Kyle Armour; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard Stevens, brother James Looney, sister Frankie Britton and grandson Eric Blake.
