Phyllis W. Boardman died on July 19. She was 92.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 23 at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley. Burial services will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery, Elmhurst, Ill.

She was born on Aug. 3, 1916, in Cook County, Ill., to Clyde L. Way and Irene C. Chase.

She graduated high school in 1934 in Webster Groves, Mo., and attended the University of Illinois for one year. She was a homemaker.

She was married on May 12, 1945, in Elmhurst, Ill.

She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Peace Lutheran Church, Collectabelles No. 2 and Ladies Wildcat Red Hats. She volunteered at Empire Mine State Historic Park in the gift shop and Bourn Cottage for a number of years. She was invited by the all male high school cheerleaders to join the squad in 1932, there by becoming the first female cheerleader in the state of Missouri. She said that they participated in cheerleading competitions and always took first place, not because they were so much better than the others, but because of the novelty of having a woman on the squad.

She enjoyed reading The Union newspaper and remembering family and friends birthdays and all celebrations.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Campbell (Steve) of Penn Valley; son, Blake E. Boardman (Debbie) of Simi Valley; grandchildren Ryan C. Campbell of Seattle, Wash., Robin D. Campbell of Seattle, Wash., and Blake S. Campbell of Roatan, Honduras; great-grandchildren, Dahbi L. Campbell and Kaiya K. Campbell of Seattle, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Clyde L. Way and Irene C. Chase; husband, Stanley B. Boardman, and sisters Lenore Jesiek and Fern vandenBrink.

Memorial contributions can be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Foothills, Empire Mine State Historic Park or donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
