"Addie L. Knollin"

"Addie L. Knollin, youngest child of John and Elizabeth Knollin, was born November 7, 1854.

A life well begun, a race well run, a battle fought and victory won, home at last and her Saviour's 'well done."

Always frail in body but with a great heart of love and sympathy, she unselfishly labored far beyond her physical strength that others might be benefited by her toll. She died at her post, with needle in hand, ready to thread; suddenly her hand faltered, her needle dropped to the floor, unthreaded. Her earthly work was done, but there will never be an end to the sweet memories of a life of such peace and loving kindness as she daily manifested. She never forgot Paul's injunction, 'Covet earnestly the best gifts.'

"I hold it truth the truest joy,
That may on earth be had
Arises from the sweet employ
Of making others glad.'

Because of intense suffering, she often expressed a desire to depart, and failing strength gave her the assurance that her earthly journey would soon be over. Quietly and very patiently she endured for more than five weeks, often unable to make her wants known, she would smile and suffer resignedly. Faith triumphed and there was never heard a complaining word. Peacefully, quietly, she passed away to enjoyments for which she had many years been preparing.

They never quite leave us, our loved
who have passed
Through the shadows of death to
the sunlight above;
A thousand sweet memories are
holding them fast
To the places they blessed with
their presence and love.

I shall not know, but I will watch
and wait;
The world below, sometime my
home, will lie
Beyond my sight and ken, howe'er
I try;
But though long, nightless days,
before the gate
Which faces earthward, hoping soon
or late
One face to see, I oft will stand, and
sigh,
Your voice of other years will break
the air,
And turning, I shall see you smiling
there!"
