Harry Vernon Pierce was born January 5, 1891, in White Hall, Greene County, Illinois. He was the youngest for four brothers, Frank, Ralph and Shirley.  His eldest brother was 21 when he was born and his parents were 48 and 43 respectively.  He lived in White Hall his whole childhood, I believe, on the family farm.

After high school he moved to Springfield and was a lodger in a boarding house.  He met Edith Wilson on the trolley car.  Her father, Elmer, was the conductor.  They married on December 8, 1910.  they lived in Springfield for about ten years and had three children: Helen (1911), Ruth who died as an infant in 1914, and Lloyd (1916). Then they moved to Taylorville where Shirley Jean was born in 1925.  They moved to Catlin about 1926 and lived there a number of years.  Harry worked at the Peabody Coal Company.
Harry died of a heart attack on March 29, 1948, at age 57, in Taylorville, Illinois.  He was buried at Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin, Illinois.
