Bernice Kirkland Adams of Port O'Connor, Texas left us to be with our lord, Jesus Christ on Monday, July 27, 2009. She was born August 29, 1931 in Channelview, Texas to the late Russell and Evie Kirkland.

One of 5 children raised in Devers, Texas, Bernice accepted the lord into her life as was baptized on August 24, 1946. She met the love of her life, Doyle Adams in Houston where he picked her out of the church choir at age 17. Doyle and Bernice were joined in marriage on August 21, 1949. They were blessed with two children, Brenda born in 1951 and Jerry in 1955.

Bernice followed Doyle throughout his career with Honeywell that started in Houston and took them to San Antonio, Atlanta and Minneapolis prior to their retirement in 1988 when they settled in Port O'Connor. She truly enjoyed being the perfect hostess, gracefully throwing dinner parties in her home for corporate executives.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Doyle; son, Jerry and wife Sandy; granddaughter, Michelle and husband Jeff and granddaughter Valerie; siblings, Opal Goodson, Cecil Kirkland, Audrey Parker, and Nora Lee Ladd along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

In addition to her parents Bernice was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda in 1966.

Bernice was a graduate of Devers High School in Devers, Texas where she played basketball under the alias of "crazy legs Kirkland". She was also a princess in the Daughters of the Nile. Bernice was an avid hunter and fisherwoman who enjoyed traveling, bowling, bridge and dominoes to name just a few of her hobbies. Bernice and Doyle enjoyed many cruises including trips to the Panama Canal, Russia, the Caribbean, Europe and Japan.

One of her greatest loves was attending and supporting the 1st Baptist Church of Port O'Connor while singing in the choir.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Port O'Connor with Marcos Gohlke and JV Helms officiating. Interment will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
