Thomas served as a Private, Company K, 1st Delaware Infantry during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 1st Delaware on September 24, 1861 in Wilmington, Delaware for a 3 year term. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being 18 years old, 5' 6", light complexion, light hair, blue eyes, a farmer, and residing in Media, Pennsylvania.

Thomas "Died Of Wounds" received in the battle of Antietam that occurred on September 17, 1862 during the war.
