American dancer ,painter, sculptor, and actor. Paul Swan began his artistic career when he enrolled at the Institute of Chicago and studied painting. In 1903 he found himself in New York City with very little money and he acquired a job as an illustrator for the Butterick Pattern Company. He was inspired by a Russian actress during a performance and he painted her portrait. He presented her with the gift and she commissioned him to paint five more paintings. With the money he made from the paintings, he went to Greece where he studied sculpture and dance. He married Helen Gavit and they had two daughters, Paula and Flora. During his career he painted many famous people. He became a notable actor when Andy Warhol made a film about him and he used him in his film "Camp". Later in life he held recitals in his studio where he shared his knowledge of art.
