Laura Howland Hutchinson was the daughter of Clark Howland and his wife Margaret Lee Kerr. Laura outlived three husbands. She married first on November 9, 1881, probably in Johnson County, Nebraska, Douglas B. Bryson who died in 1885. They had two sons, the youngest died in infancy. Laura married second, Frank Washington Hutchinson (as his second wife), May 1, 1887 near Burr, Otoe County, Nebraska. Together they had eight children. After Frank's death she married her cousin, Charles Frederick "Fred" Howard who is buried with his first wife at Beulah Cemetery, Colby, Thomas County, Kansas.
