Businessman. Despite being extremely poor after the end of World War II, along with his brother Karl founded the discount supermarket chain Aldi, even creating an economic recognized worldwide empire. He possessed one of the largest fortunes in Germany, estimated at 23,5 billion dollars, according to the "Manager Magazine". Also, Forbes magazine ranked him 20th between richest world people. He was kidnapped in 1971 for 17 days and was released after a ransom paid 3 million dollars.
