Thanks to genetic genealogy, genealogical research and newspaper articles, I (Carolina Hudson) have been able to find out his origins.
William Hudson was born as Thomas Satchwell, changing identity sometime around 1850 when immigrating to the U.S. He was born in Mountsorrel, England, to clothier and furniture broker Thomas Shadwell Satchwell (1789-1861) and Sarah Norfolk (1791-1848), and was a school teacher in Leicester and Northampton in the 1830's and 1840's. He made great success as a teacher and lecturer, but made some poor choices which led him to leave England, his wife, Catherine (Cartwright) and son, John Thomas Satchwell, born 1844, and start new. After digging for gold in California, he settled in Texas, marrying the widow Julia A. Huddleston, who died shortly after their marriage. In 1858, he married Elizabeth Hardisty, and settled in Birdville, Texas.
