August was the son of August Ludwig Mews and Emilie Maas. He married Anna Hesse. They had 5 children, Hertha, Ruth E., Ivadell, Stella Olga and Marvin.

Passes Away After Brief Illness; Funeral Services Today, (Thursday)

August Mews died after a brief illness in his home one mile east of Paullina on Monday morning, April 8th, 1940, at the age of 55 years, two months, twenty-three days. He was born January 15, 1885. He purchased the farm home on which he died and moved on it in 1922. Before that time he had been farming on various places west of Paullina. On August 11, 1907, he married Miss Anna Haese of Milwaukee.

His widow and five children mourn his death. They are, Hertha, Mrs. Alfred Niebuhr, Ruth, Mrs. Herbert Kniese, Ivadell, Mrs. Raymond Niebuhr, Stella, Mrs. Ray Rehder, and Marvin, still at home, a Junior in High School. Mr. Mews and his family Joined Zion Lutheran church of Paullina. One brother, John In Colton, S. Dakota, two sisters Mrs. J Schlueter of Remsen, and Mrs. Breeding of Bridgewater, S. Dakota, besides 8 grandchildren and Immediate family mourn his early demise.

Funeral services will be conducted by the pastor of Zion Lutheran church, the Rev. J Hartmeister, on Thursday afternoon, April 11, 1940. Interment in Prairie View Cemetery.
