She was born Nov 10, 1884 at Burrton, KS the daughter of Mr & Mrs James Henry Poorbaugh. Her parents were homesteaders and she grew up on a Kansas farm. In 1900 she and Charles E. Cox were married and they homesteaded near Campo, CO.

Before Mr. Cox died in 1934, she took a number of courses in writing and attended Washburn University in Topeka , took extension courses at the University of Wisconsin and Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS.

In the middle of the 1930's she realized one of her great ambitions and became the author of nine published books. The best known is "The Rath Trail", and "Early Ford County".

She was a memeber of the First Christian Church of Dodge City, a lifetime member and past president of the Kansas Authors Club, a life member of the Kanas State Historical Society; member of the Ford County Historical Society, the Kansas native Sons and Daughters, the Kansas Genealogical Society, ...etc.

Survivors include a son, John Cox of Dodge City, two daughters, Mrs. Emma Simmons of Vallejo, CA, and Mrs. Arlie C. Miller of Hutchinson, one brother, Earl Poorbuagh of Hermitage, MO, three sisters, Mrs. Estella Davis of Hutchinson, Mrs. Mabel Wright & Mrs. Maude Grace of Newark, CA, six grandchildren & six great grandchildren.

Funeral will be Thursday at 2 pm atBarber-Dunsford Funeral Home. James M. Gall minister will officiate and burial in the Maple Grove Cemetery

She is the author of seven children's books based on true facts, a book of poetry and a KS county history, "Early Ford County". She is a member of six author and press women clubs, as well, as the KS State Historical Society, Ford County Historical Society and The Western Railettes. She has been a saleswomen, teacher and well known public speaker. She owned, lived in and managed apartment houses in Dodge City, KS until her death. She gave invaluable service to the compiler in her efforts to secure the data of her sisters's and brother's families.
