On Sunday morning, July 25, 2010, as church bells rang throughout the land, Aubrey Eugene "Roy" Mitchell stood within the all encompassing light and love of his Lord and heard the words, "Well done thou good and faithful servant."

Roy was born to Eugene and Elise Mitchell in Schoolfield, VA. In 1943 during WWII, Roy joined the US Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater until 1946 and was honorably discharged as Seaman 1st Class. Following his discharge from the service Roy moved to New Castle, Delaware with his family. It was here that he met and married his beloved wife of over 60 years, Virginia Ann Banning Mitchell.

After working at Bond Bread Company and General Motors, Roy became a structural ironworker with Ironworker's Local #451 from 1958 until his retirement in 1990. He then worked part-time in the maintenance department of Sears Fashion Merchandise Distribution Center for approximately 5 years. For ten years Roy and Virginia operated a day care out of their home and he became known to his many "children" as well as his own grandchildren as "Papaw".

Roy is survived by his daughters Wanda Angotti with whom he lived, Robin Mitchell Cheeseman and her husband Ron Cheeseman of Middletown, grandchildren Ali M Cheeseman, Scott Cheeseman and his wife Kim Cheeseman, Bryan Cheeseman and his wife Michele Cheeeman, his great-grandchildren Kayla, Kyle, Cassie, Brianna and Kaitlynn Cheeseman and Bradley Fecteau, his sister-in-law, Melva Anthony and her husband Charles Anthony, nephew Michael Anthony and his wife Kandy Anthony and their daughters Ashley, Angela, and Michaela and his very special granddog, Happy.

Roy was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife, Virginia Mitchell.

A visitation for family and friends was held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 10-11 am, at the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park followed by a service in celebration of Roy's life at 11 am.

Interment followed in Gracelawn Memorial Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
