"Guy J. Swift, a young man residing near Sharon Springs, met with a sad accident on Tuesday of last week which resulted in his death early Sunday morning. Mr. Swift and a boy had gone to the field after a load of oats, and had started to return to the barn with the load. The field was very sidling and it was found necessary to chain the wheels. In some manner the wagon became stalled, and Mr. Swift told the boy to loosen the chains. When the wheels were released, the wagon started on down the hill and he at once saw that it would run upon the horses unless the speed was checked. He therefore pulled crosswise of the hill, and in doing this the wagon toppled over. M. Swift jumped to save himself, but was caught by the rigging and hurled violently to the ground. He was picked up unconscious and taken to the home, where an examination disclosed that he was suffering from internal injuries and that his condition was critical. He did not rally and other complications set in, resulting in his death on Sunday morning. He was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Swift, and was twenty-four years of age. In June, 1912, he was united in marriage to Miss Edna Fonda, and four weeks ago a child came to bless their happy home. He was a model young man and was well thought of by every one. He had a large circle of friends who are grieved at his untimely death. An additional sad feature is the fact that his father is blind and that in his affliction he leaned heavily upon his son as the mainstay. To the stricken family the sympathy of many friends is extended. Funeral services were held Wednesday and were largely attended."
