Rettew's Mill Notes
The remains of John Kline, who died last week at the Erie Soldier's Home, in Erie, this State, where he has been an inmate for some time, which had been interred there, were exhumed and brought to Lancaster by express, on Tuesday, where they were taken in charge by undertaker P.W. Weidman, of Akron, and brought to Steinmetz's cemetery, in Ephrata Township, near this place where they were re-interred in a grave along side that of the wife of the deceased, who died some years ago, The deceased was aged 79 years, 11 months and 12 days. He leaves three daughters, as follows: Mrs. Christian Heckenroth [Ecenroad], of Stevens: Mrs. John Heckenroth, [Ecenroad] residing near Diamond station, along the Lancaster and Ephrata trolley line, near Akron, and Mrs. John Hallman, of Bloomsburg, Columbia county, this State. It was through the efforts of the latter that the body was brought to this county for interment. The deceased formerly resided at Stevens and was well known.
This news article explains why his burial card is for Erie while his tombstone and body are actually at Wolf's cemetery. A researcher went to the site of his place of burial in Erie and found only a blank spot.
