Business executive. A graduate of Trinity College in Connecticut (1905), and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (1908), Clement was an attorney President of Philadelphia's Winslow-Knickerbocker Coal Company. He was also a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with the 28th Infantry Division in World War I, first as commander of the division's Military Police Battalion, and later as Assistant Chief of Staff on the division staff. He retired from the National Guard as a Colonel, and he was a member of the Masons, Sons of the American Revolution and other civic, fraternal and veterans organizations.
