John P. Rock 1860 census- apprentice saddler. Enlisted in Company B, 97th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania. Killed in action at Chaffin's Farm. (Chapin's Farm) He was killed during an attack on Fort Gilmer outside of Richmond, Virginia. His family attempted to confirm his death. In his military records, a letter exists by a fellow soldier stating he was killed on the field of battle. His body was not recovered. He most likely was buried on the battlefield.
