Violet Elizabeth Liggett, 94, of Aledo, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.
Private family service will be at a later date. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Mercer County Nursing Home or Shriner's Children's Hospital.
She was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Mercer County, the daughter of William M. and Gussie Olive Booth Bigham. She married Kenneth W. Liggett on Jan. 24, 1949, in Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death Feb. 27, 1998.
Violet graduated from New Boston High School in 1934. She later graduated from McGovern School of Beauty in Moline.
Violet owned and operated Powder Puff Beauty Salon in Aledo for more than 40 years, retiring in 1983.
During World War II she joined the Civil Service and was stationed in Oklahoma City, Okla., and then at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii, until the end of the war.
She enjoyed doll collecting, singing and playing the organ, needle work and spending time with her family.
Violet was a many-year member of OES Chapter No. 126 Aledo. She served as Worthy Matron several times. In her earlier years she belonged to the Business and Professional Women and various doll clubs. Violet also was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aledo.
Survivors include her children, Gregory (Joann) Liggett, Lakeside, Calif., and Kandice Harrison, Aledo; stepdaughter, Sherry (Eldin) Ehrlich, Lincoln, Neb.; stepdaughter-in-law, Charlotte Liggett; Bennet, Neb.; five grandchildren, Kortney Harrison, Kenzie Harrison, Alexandra (Will) Hunt, Kyle Liggett, Jennifer Liggett; several nieces and nephews. Violet was lovingly expecting her first great-grandchild in September. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Don Bigham; two sisters, Ola Finch and Edna Ruggles; stepson, Kenneth R. Liggett.
