FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. NETTIE MUMMEY

AVON.--Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie (Tate) Mummey, who passed away quietly at her home Tuesday, January 17 [1950], were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Brand Funeral home with Dr. Stanley Manning officiating. Harold Bell sang "In God's Other Room" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Bell. Pallbearers were Albert Sundberg, Walter Burgard, George McFarland, Heloy Woods, William Mark, and Lewis F. Lillie. Burial was in the Avon cemetery.
Mary Nettie Tate was born in Knoxville, Illinois, on October 28, 1867, the daughter of Thomas B. and Mary (Booth) Tate. She attended St. Mary's school in Knoxville, and later taught school for several years near her home. She was also a dressmaker. At an early age she united with the Methodist church of Knoxville.
On April 4, 1894, she was married in Knoxville at the home of her parents to Willis G. Mummey. They came to Avon to make their home, attending the Universalist church, now a part of the Federated church.
She is survived by her husband and three children, Mrs. Marcia Powell, Avon; Edwin T. Mummey, Galesburg, and Willis G. Mummey, Jr., Canton. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Marcia Stromberg, Galesburg, and Mrs. Asenath White of Tacoma, Washington; one brother, John T. Tate of Kimberly, B. C. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death. There are eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One grandson, Thomas Mummey, died in World War II.
