John Frederick McDade was a grandson of James Wilkins McDade, the first sheriff of Austin county and founder of McDade and Hempstead Texas.
He was a partner in the C. C. Mize drug store in Smithville up until 1919 when he returned to Hempstead and partnered with Searcy Baker "S. B.". Boulware in the McDade & Boulware drug store. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest in a rear room of their drug store. (Search Boulware was one of his pallbearers.)
