Nathan N Sherwood was born in Canada Dec 11, 1832. and died at his home in Momence, Ill., May 29 1907, aged 74 years, 5 months and 18 days. He had been a great sufferer for about two years, and death was caused from gangrene. In the passing of this aged man, comes the end of a busy and useful life.
The deceased came to the U.S. when he was only nine years old, and grew up here. In 1855 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jones, who with all their children survive him. They had three sons and one daughter, H.A. and W.R. Sherwood and Mrs W.A. Harlan, of Momence. A.G. Sherwood, of Independence, Kansas. He also leaves two sisters and two brothers to mourn his lose.
Mr Sherwood was an early settler in Momence, and the greater part of his life was spend as a farmer, but he also followed blacksmithing to some extent, being a competent man with all kinds of mechanicals tools.
As a citizen he always stood for the right in all things, and his life was one of virtue and honor. He won many friends, and by his real worth kept them through life.
The funeral will be held by Parish Chapel, Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Vreeland. Burial at the Shrontz cemetery. The Progress extends sympathy to those who mourn.
