Squire D. Bratcher, the son of Thomas Bratcher and Susannah (Wilson) Carroll, the widow of Enoch Carroll, was born on October 2, 1822 in Grayson County, Kentucky. He was the husband of Mary Jane Myers. They were the parents of Eliza, Arminda, Owen, Margaret J., Ellis K., William Wallace, Thomas Volney, Robert B., James A., and U.S. Grant Bratcher.

Squire D. Bratcher died on May 18, 1880 in Grayson County, Kentucky. He was survived by his wife Mary, who appears just weeks later in the 1880 Census of Caneyville, Kentucky. He was buried in the Kelly Cemetery west of Caneyville on Highway 62 at Do Stop, Grayson County, Kentucky where his son U.S. Grant Bratcher had been laid to rest after his death at the age of 10 months and 11 days on April 17, 1864. Squire's widow Mary J. Bratcher joined them there after her death on November 17, 1895 in Grayson County. Also buried with them in this cemetery are their children: William Wallace, Margaret A., James A. and Ellis K. Bratcher.
