After Permelia's death in 1864, William C. Wright was an itinerant preacher at the Richland Center Baptist Society when he met his second wife. The family moved to Weymouth, Massachusetts where Wright was a minister. Another move later, he was the secretary of the newly formed Unitarian Society in Madison. In 1883, he filed for divorce from Anna Lloyd Jones, and his son, Frank Lloyd Wright, said he never saw his father again. To be closer to the children from his first marriage, William C. Wright moved to Wahoo, Nebraska, where he set up a music-publishing company.
