He received his schooling in St. Louis and grew to young manhood there.
On Oct. 19, 1930, he was united in marriage to Miss Mildred Toelke. They made their home in St. Louis, and two children were born to this marriage. Mr. O'Brien had worked as a carpenter and a bricklayer for over 40 years, and was a retired member of the Bricklayers Union, Local No. 1.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred O'Brien on July 16, 1990.
Those who survive are his son, Martin O'Brien and his wife, Shirley, of Hazelwood; daughter Gloria Cate of St. Louis County; six grandchildren, Sandra Hussey, Cathy Miller, Marty, Kevin and Duffy O'Brien, and Douglas Maxeiner; seven great-grandchidren, Amanda, Cara, Andrea, Rebecca, Brian, Jessica and Charles; and one brother, Albert J. O'Brien of St. Louis.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 24, from the Hutchens Mortuary in Florissant at 11 a.m. by the Rev. James Swenson. Interment followed in the Zion United Methodist Cemetery at Leslie with graveside services at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements were by the Oltmann Funeral Home of Union.
